Authorities in Cayuga County are investigating a house fire that claimed the life of an 89-year-old resident earlier this week in the Town of Conquest. According to the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office, the victim has been identified as Ralph “Keene” Christopher, a longtime resident of the area.
Emergency crews were dispatched to a residence located at 281 East Lake Road at approximately 8:36 a.m. on March 10 after reports of a structure fire. Firefighters and first responders arrived at the scene and worked to control the blaze while conducting a search of the home.
During the response, authorities discovered Christopher inside the residence. Officials later confirmed that he had died at the scene. Investigators say a preliminary examination of the fire indicates that it began in the living room of the home. However, officials have not yet determined the exact cause of the fire.
