Authorities in Robeson County are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred early Sunday morning at a residence just outside the town of Rowland.
According to the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to a home near the intersection of Josie Lane and Kitchen Street Road shortly after 3 a.m. following reports of a shooting at a gathering.
When deputies arrived at the scene, they located a teenager who had suffered a gunshot wound. Authorities later identified the victim as 16-year-old Keedon Lewis of Lumberton. Officials confirmed that he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Sheriff Burnis Wilkins said investigators believe a number of people were present at the residence at the time of the incident. Law enforcement officials are working to determine the circumstances that led to the shooting and who may have been involved.
“We know there were a number of individuals present at the gathering, and we are asking anyone who attended or who may have information to come forward and speak with our investigators,” Wilkins said in a statement.
Authorities emphasized that even small details could play a key role in helping investigators understand exactly what happened and in providing answers for the victim’s family.
Detectives are continuing to gather evidence and speak with potential witnesses as part of the ongoing investigation. Officials have not yet released additional details about the events leading up to the incident.
The sheriff’s office is urging anyone who may have information to contact investigators directly.
As the community processes this tragic loss, investigators hope that cooperation from those who were present will help bring clarity to the case.
With authorities seeking witnesses, many are asking an important question: will someone who attended the gathering step forward to help investigators find answers?
