Authorities are investigating a fatal crash that occurred Wednesday evening in Brunswick, Maine, involving a van that went off a bridge.
According to Brunswick police, the driver has been identified as 22-year-old Brandon MacFarland of Sebago. Officials say the incident happened around 6:50 p.m. as MacFarland was driving a Ford Transit van along the Route 196 on-ramp toward Route 1.
Preliminary information from investigators indicates that while traveling over a bridge, the vehicle left its lane and moved onto an icy embankment along the side of the roadway. Police say the van then went over a barrier and fell to the ground below.
Emergency crews quickly responded to the scene after the crash was reported. Despite their efforts, MacFarland was pronounced deceased at the scene, authorities confirmed.
