The Kentucky State Police is investigating a two-vehicle crash in Boyle County that resulted in one death and involved a local deputy.

The collision occurred just before 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 3, at the intersection of Hustonville Road and West Shelby Street. According to KSP, preliminary findings indicate that Boyle County Deputy Zach King was traveling northbound and attempting to make a left turn onto West Shelby Street at the time of the crash.

Investigators say a southbound vehicle driven by 27-year-old Michael Mingey of Lancaster entered the intersection and struck the deputy’s vehicle after allegedly disregarding a traffic control device.

Mingey was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries, authorities said. Deputy King was also taken to the hospital and treated for injuries described as non-life-threatening.

KSP is leading the investigation to determine the full circumstances surrounding the collision. No additional details have been released at this time.

Officials say the review remains ongoing, and further information will be shared as it becomes available through official channels.
