Painter was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have scheduled an autopsy to confirm details surrounding the crash.
Less than half an hour later, another fatal incident occurred on the same stretch of I-65. Richard Newlin, 52, of Indianapolis, was driving a semi-truck northbound when he did not notice slowed traffic about three miles north of the Indiana 25 exit. His truck collided with the back of another semi-trailer, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy has also been scheduled for Newlin to help officials fully understand the circumstances of the crash.
